The Yoga of The Horse – Vedic Symbol Of The Universe

DADHIKRAVAN, the Vedic Horse

Dadhikravan is he of whom now we must do the work;

May all the Dawns speed me on the path!

For the Waters and for the Dawn and the Sun and Brihaspati,

He of the puissance, the Victor…

Dadhikravan who is the truth in his running,

yea, he gallops and he flies, – brings into being

the impulsion, and the abundant force, the heavenly light.

When he runs, when he speeds in his passage,

as the wing of the Bird is a wind that blows about him

in his greed of the gallop…

For the abundance of his strength he carries his impellor beyond,

a rein binds his neck and a rein holds him about the chest

and a rein is in his mouth.

Dadhikravan puts forth his energy according to the will in the mind

and gallops along the turning of the path… (Rigveda 4, 40, 1-4)

Description

When the Mother of Sri Aurobindo Ashram, Pondicherry, passed in November, 1973, Thea (Patrizia Norelli-Bachelet) received many keys of knowledge from her, which she presents in her landmark book, The Gnostic Circle – a study in cosmic harmonies. By 1986 Thea had established her own home and research centre. She had a deep understanding of the Vedic symbolism of the Cow as light and consciousness, and the Horse as force and speed; these two animals were to be an essential part of her applied cosmology.

In The Yoga of the Horse, Thea explores the process of the spiritual journey through a racing experience with three of her magnificent thoroughbred horses. A detailed analysis of each race, based on the diagram of The Gnostic Circle, is at the heart of this story. Using diary notes, excerpts from Sri Aurobindo and the Mother’s writings, and inspired by Dadhikravan, the Vedic Horse, Thea describes the method which can affect a real transformation of society.
